Ma recherche est organisée autour de deux axes, mettant en jeu la phylogénie moléculaire, l’évolution moléculaire et la génomique comparée.
1- Phylogenomics of cellular processes and cellular systems
Il s’agit ici de reconstituer l’histoire évolutive des systèmes et processus cellulaires ayant joué un rôle clé lors de la diversification des trois domaines du vivant. L’objectif est de comprendre l’évolution des organismes du point de vue biologique.
2- Origin and diversification of the three domains of life
L’objectif ici est d’élucider les relations de parenté entre les organismes actuels et donc de retracer l’ordre dans lequel les groupes taxonomiques majeurs ont émergé lors de la diversification des trois domaines du vivant.
Ces deux approches sont complémentaires. En effet, comment comprendre les étapes qui ont conduit à la biodiversité actuelle, sans intégrer l’évolution des systèmes et processus biologiques ? Réciproquement, comment appréhender ces questions, sans disposer d’une phylogénie retraçant l’histoire évolutive des organismes ?
Bien que complémentaires ces deux approches sont souvent abordées de manière indépendante, alors que les informations obtenues au travers de l’analyse des systèmes et processus biologiques peuvent fournir de nouvelles données pour améliorer notre connaissance de la phylogénie des organismes et inversement, l’étude phylogénétique des données génomiques peut mettre en évidence des systèmes et processus biologiques d’intérêt pour comprendre l’évolution des organismes.
