Les systèmes vivants sont constitués d’une multitude de niveaux d'organisation imbriqués, impliquant coopération et conflits. La coopération et la sélection de systèmes fonctionnant de manière coordonnée a permis des transitions évolutives dites “majeures”, vers de nouvelles échelles d'individualité, comme la cellule eucaryote. Néanmoins, la sélection naturelle continue à opérer à toutes les échelles, générant de possibles conflits évolutifs entre les différentes composantes de l’individu.
Nos recherches s’inscrivent dans cette perspective, et visent à mieux comprendre la nature et les implications évolutives des interactions entre les multiples composantes des organismes, du gène aux bactéries symbiotiques, en passant par les virus et les éléments transposables. Nous explorons également l’impact de ces interactions sur la dynamique de l’information génétique, à travers le transfert horizontal, ou sur l’innovation génétique et l’adaptation, à travers la domestication. Nos recherches, essentiellement expérimentales, mais également théoriques, sont mises en œuvre sur des modèles arthropodes, et relèvent principalement de la génétique et la génomique évolutive.
L'équipe est structurée en deux grands axes:
- Interactions intra-génomiques : les éléments transposables (resp. Marie Fablet)
- Ex1: La dynamique évolutive des éléments transposables (ET) dans les génomes, en lien avec leur variabilité naturelle. Nous utilisons pour modèles des populations naturelles de Drosophila melanogaster et D. simulans, ainsi que des espèces d’intérêt agronomique ou sociétal, telles que l’espèce envahissante D. suzukii ou le moustique tigre Aedes albopictus.
- Ex2: Les interactions entre le contrôle des ET et l’immunité anti-virale. Nous étudions les mécanismes moléculaires d’interférence ARN à l’origine de l’intrication de ces deux processus, ainsi que les implications co-évolutives, à l’aide d’infections expérimentales de différents virus sur plusieurs lignées de drosophiles.

- Ex1: Certaines bactéries symbiotiques apportent des capacités métaboliques dont l’insecte est dépourvu. Nous analysons ces interactions chez des insectes hématophages (punaise de lits, tiques) et phytophages (l’aleurode Bemisia tabaci) par des approches combinant analyse des phénotypes, génétique, physiologie et métabolomique.
- Ex2: Les insectes parasitoïdes ont domestiqué des gènes viraux leur permettant de contourner les réponses immunitaire de leurs hôtes. Nous étudions la fréquence et la signification adaptative de ces évènements et, plus généralement, nous recherchons les facteurs structurant les transferts horizontaux dans les communautés hôtes-parasitoïdes.
